Change Starts with a Conversation

Every year brings change – it's the one reliable constant in our lives. And 2025 has certainly brought change beyond any reasonable measure!

Domestically, the Spring Statement made for tough listening – especially for those of us who are disabled and poised to be hit by some huge cuts. With a murky and uncertain economic outlook, there are few green shoots and even fewer causes for optimism.

Internationally... well, you can read plenty of excellent analysis elsewhere (I love the FT for its clear-headed perspective), but tariffs, China, Russia, Ukraine, the EU, anti-LGBTQ+ laws passed in Hungary – you name it, it’s happening, and it’s having an impact on us both at home and at work.

Just last week, I advised an organisation that is being challenged to respond and evolve – both in terms of campaigning, and in addressing their bottom line.

Delivering change – whether in campaigning presence or structural transformation – is equally tough, because in both areas people are emotionally invested. Campaigners campaign because they believe in what they do, and likewise most employees tend to try and work in places where we have some form of personal connection or investment.

I’ve spent my entire professional career as a comms pro and campaigner – delivering real impact, whether in Parliament, with the media, or through behaviour change. I love this work because it’s challenging and rewarding; you can feel and see the difference you’re making. It’s incredibly easy to get wrong, and really hard to get right. It takes imagination, experience, and, frankly, gritty determination. Most importantly, it requires strategy.

Over the last decade, change and transformation have become areas of real expertise for me. I’ve been restructured, I’ve led transformation, and I’ve even experienced both at the same time! The distinction between transformation/change and restructure is clear – and, in my view, it comes down to good strategy, excellent communication, honesty, and integrity.

If you or your organisation need to change things up – whether that’s boosting your profile, dialling up your campaigning, or transforming how you work – get in touch. I’d be happy to have a coffee!
